The Eau Claire Area School District (ECASD) is a school district that covers all of the city of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Eau Claire Area School District, with an enrollment of approximately 10,700 students, is the eighth largest school district in Wisconsin. It covers approximately 200 square miles (520 km2). There are 12 elementary schools in the district, 3 middle schools, 2 high schools, and 2 charter schools. With authority granted by the state legislature, the school board makes policy, selects the superintendent, and oversees the district's budget, curriculum, personnel, and facilities. [1]

Board of education

The Eau Claire Area School District Board of Education is the policy-making body responsible for selecting the superintendent and overseeing the district's budget, curriculum, personnel and facilities. See Board of education for further details on the functions of a school board. The ECASD Board of Education has been granted the power to carry out such duties by the State of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Legislature.

Each year in April the Board of Education accepts applications from high school sophomores and juniors to serve as the Student Representative to the Board of education. A committee of the Board interviews selected students and a recommendation is made to the Board in May. The Student Representative does not have Voting rights but plays a valuable role in keeping the voice of students heard.[2]
